Does the Prime Minister support Pleural Plaques compensation?

Recent reports suggest Prime Minister Gordon Brown is ready to make his support known on the Asbestos Related disease Pleural Plaques.

It is expected that the decision will be clarified in April.

The insurers have fought long and hard to avoid liability stating that Pleural Plaques is not a disease that causes physical suffering but to ignore the mental strain of knowing those diagnosed with pleural plaques suffer is unacceptable.

Let us hope the government see sense and reinstate the claim UK wide.

In Scotland it is possible to claim damages for Pleural Plaques after a big majority vote in Holyrood, but this does not apply in England and Wales.

Campaigning looks to have gained a positive result and the ‘postcode lottery’ for this type of illness looks set to be ended.

It is not known at this stage if compensation will be through individual claim or via a scheme.
